weekend adventures...

I was going to share my big project from this past weekend, but when I looked through my archives, I found I'd already shared a very similar post.  So, to see how I spent my Saturday morning, click here.  :-)

Yesterday, I received a panicked call from my neighbor telling me to come to the front door of her house.  Upon arrival, she directed me to her back door where I saw this...

Now, keep in mind that she is deathly afraid of snakes.  Of course, she was freaking out.  I asked her what she wanted me to do and she said get rid of it.

Last year during my first few snake wrangling experiences for her, I'd told her I wouldn't kill a snake unless it was poisonous.  I wouldn't kill those either, but I have major flashback trauma of not being able to go in my grandad's yard without a shovel or hoe due to all the baby copperheads for a few summers.
Anywho...

I found his head, he'd been drinking out of the plant tray, and had a little talk with him.  I explained how he was kind of in danger if he hung around in her yard as she'd probably kill him if she saw him again, but I assured him he was welcome to hang out in my yard and patio and I'd not bother him at all.  I think he was mostly annoyed because he made his way across her yard to the outside of her fence (opposite my side) where he curled up under (or maybe in) a boxwood.
She was still freaking out and wanting me to take him to the woods.  I told her just cause he went into the woods, didn't mean he'd stay there!  :-)  I think he was at least 4 feet long but was very skinny.  It didn't look like he'd eaten anything in a while.  He sure was a pretty little black rat snake.

So, that was my exciting time on Mother's day.  Haha.

How was your weekend?  ;-)

Thanks for stopping in for a read...

06 February 2013

wispy, slow days...

February...already... how does the time go by so quickly?

It's been rather springy weather this past week.  I've spent a few days in the garden, put-zing around.

I've been taking it kinda like this guy...s-l-o-w...  So long as I take my time and don't work too hard, I seem to be able to get through without too much pain.

My seed orders arrived and I spent time going through all the ones I've collected over past years, sorted them and put them in better storage.  I made notes in my garden journal of what I have and what the packets said about planting, growing, etc.  I'm a little confused on some things, I'll have to do some research.

Now that I have all these seeds, I've still to sort where they will all get planted.  Somethings that I would grow for herbal medicines or vegetables can't be grown on the side by the wood fence due to my neighbor's father's love of  roundup weeding.  Drives me nuts...

I'm planning to eventually have a long border along the fence of flowers.  I do need to move my Joe Pye this year - but to where, I've no clue.

These lovelies are sprouting up.  I've been saying for years that I want to add more crocus, daffodils and tulips to the gardens.  Hopefully this will be the year.

I've also spent lots of time in the studio.  The creating bug has bitten and I'm happily making things.  I seem to be keeping a sketch pad close by everywhere and can see improvement in my sketching.  Happy, happy!

I'm off to the lake this weekend for a visit with friends.  The daughter of my heart (but not my blood) is riding up with me tomorrow with everyone else following Friday.

Is anyone else having trouble with Blogger?  For months I've been unable to get to my reading list.  I can't change it and have reached my Blogger allowed limit and cannot add any new blogs to my list.  It is unbelievably frustrating!  I'm seriously considering moving to another service.  Any recommendations?

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.  I hope to have photos from the lake next time.  I'm planning on working on my photo-taking skills while there.

PS...If you live in the Northeast of the US, I hope that you stay safe and warm.  I'm a bit envious of the blizzard, they say is headed that way.  I've never lived through one, but I've always wanted the experience.
Stay safe!

09 March 2007

Now I know...

Turns out the shop where I have to buy my yarn for class does not carry the yarn I needed for the project I wanted to do. So, after several days of looking through patterns, I have finally found something to knit. I even bought the yarn yesterday. I'm making the Iceland Felted Bag. I am putting a trim on it but it is not with Dragonfly (which the store doesn't carry), but is a similar looking yarn. I'm excited to start this new knitting project. The colors I chose are black Iceland and the trim has several shades of blue, green and silver in it.

I'll try to post pictures later. I've taken some, I just don't have my camera here at work.

I have another busy weekend this weekend. Tonight I'm taking some clothes to a friend to see if there is something she would like to wear for tomorrow. Tomorrow I'm going to the lake to fish and then in the evening we have a Women's Spirituality Group Meeting. Sunday is my usual visit with Grandmother.

So, that is the plan for the next few days. I hope to get started on my bag, but I've also got to finish my taxes, get the laundry done, clean the house, and start getting my yard sale items together. Ugh... so much to do!

Blessings,
