Green Thumb Sunday (New Orleans Edition)

Yes, I know... I'm late with this post. Sorry for the delay, things have just been unbelievably hectic. So here are some picture of plants, flowers and trees that I took while in New Orleans. I hope you enjoy them. Next Sunday we will return to my boring old garden photos! :-)

Above is a beautiful tree that I fell in love with during one of the cemetery walks. I can't remember which cemetery. I think the one across from Greenwood.

This is a photo of a plant in Congo Square. None of us knew what it was. Can anyone help? Below is a closeup of the flowers.

Here is another photo, this from the French Quarter. Aren't they beautiful?

A closeup of my favorite...

Blessings,

I love the tree. It is so majestic.
The plant with the tall stalk is Acanthus mollis or Bear's Breech.
I don't paticularly like them they are very invasive here and once you have them you can never get rid of them. They grow from these long tuberous roots and if you pull them out and a piece breaks off, no matter how small it will regenerate another plant. scary. Aren't you glad you asked:)

Love that tree; like chigiy I'm not to keen on Acanthus ...I like the flower spikes but with such a smakk garden the leaves just crowd everthing out and it tries to take over.

You know, I lived down there way, way back when. I have such a soft spot for the Quarter. It's lovely to see some prettiness coming from there. Thank you so much for sharing the pictures.

Never have been to N'orleans but have always wanted to go. I love seeing the nature within cities, it always makes me smile at how She is everywhere! Sorry your trip had some miserable in it--my recent trip to Salem had its moments too, was hard to keep everyone in the group happy with every decision.

You only think you were late. I'm visiting last week's GTSs with this week's, lol.

I grew up right outside of New Orleans and I really miss the Spanish moss draping the live oaks. So reagal and elder statesman looking. Good to see that some of the city is looking healthy. :D

Great photos! I just learned alot about the Bear's Breech from your other visitors. I had one on my screened porch and moved it because it got so big and messy. Maybe I need to move it again! Have a great week! Oh, and I'm late visiting for GTS, too...we can be late together! :)

I've been to the French Quarter once, and I loved it. It's so CHARMING! Had some beignets while I was there, too. Yummy!

Ohhhhh........you posted a picture of bougainvillea. I love it. I brought some home from Florida this winter and it's just now starting to bloom!

The plant you asked about is Acanthus (Bears Breeches) I believe
